I'm planning to buy the ASRock B450M Steel Legend and already have a WD SN580 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD (500GB). I want to use it as my primary boot drive in the Ultra M.2 (CPU) slot. I’ve read that some Gen4 drives like this one might not work on this board. Will it work properly?
YES, THE WD SN580 PCIe GEN4 SSD WILL WORK IN THE ASROCK B450M STEEL LEGEND’S ULTRA M.2 SLOT AS A BOOT DRIVE, BUT IT WILL OPERATE AT PCIe 3.0 SPEEDS AND MAY REQUIRE A BIOS UPDATE FOR FULL COMPATIBILITY.
DUE TO POSSIBLE FIRMWARE/CONTROLLER ISSUES ON SOME B450 BOARDS, TROUBLESHOOTING MAY BE NEEDED IF NOT DETECTED IMMEDIATELY.
